e-Mate Program
Ever wondered what it can feel like to study abroad? Or, if you've already done so, was there a lot of information that you would have found handy prior to arriving at your destination?
Introducing the e-Mate program - through this, current Curtin students are connected with international students planning to study at Curtin in the following semester. Participants communicate via email with the idea being that the current student volunteer will answer general questions about life in Australia and at Curtin University. This helps the international student's transition from their home country. In a nutshell, volunteers are there to be an informal contact that can help with an incoming student's general queries.
Volunteers are required to avoid topics that may cause offence and to redirect student enquiries to the proper authority in regards to university administration, immigration, visas and other related issues. They will also have the possibility of meeting their e-Mate during Orientation Preparation Week (the week before Orientation Week) and continue to aid them during the first few weeks of the new semester either via email or in person.
It is expected that regular contact via email will take place and that no other commitments are required. Only email addresses are be traded between e-Mates. It is not expected that emailing will take a large amount of a volunteer's time. As such this program is perfect for those that are unable to commit large amounts of time on a regular basis.
Sound interesting? Of course it does!
