Agreement

By participating in the e-Mate program, I understand and agree to the following guidelines. I will:

  • Discuss general topics relating to lifestyle, university life and living in Australia with my e-Mate.
  • Be aware that only my name and email address will be given to my e-Mate. Any other information about me will not be released.
  • Have an appropriate and professional relationship with my e-Mate.
  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of information that my e-Mate may provide me.
  • Be culturally sensitive, patient and accepting if my e-Mate has different beliefs, values and customs or if my e-Mate's level of English proficiency is not the same as mine.
  • Keep in mind that topics such as religion and politics can be sensitive issues and it may be best to avoid them. However, if I want to learn about these topics from my e-Mate then I should learn from a non-judgemental and respectful point of view.
  • Not discuss issues with my e-Mate relating to:
    • University administration, including courses and enrolments
    • Immigration, visas, employment in Australia and related subjects
I will, instead, ask my e-Mate or the Connect Coordinator who I can contact regarding these topics.
  • Not rely on my e-Mate to help me academically.
  • Have the possibility of meeting with my e-Mate during Orientation Prep Week.
  • Should I want to meet with my e-Mate off-campus, Curtin will provide off-campus insurance for me upon completing and returning this form to the Connect Coordinator.
  • Inform the Connect Coordinator of any problems I encounter with my e-Mate and seek to resolve these issues.
  • Ask for help from the Connect Coordinator if I am unsure about anything to do with the e-Mate program.

These requirements can be downloaded in .doc format here (25kB).
